“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”
Welcome! You have already taken the first step to search out mental health care options which can be the hardest part.
A little about me…
I utilize evidenced based practices of Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) including trauma focused (TF-CBT), mindfulness, and Mindful Self-Compassion. I have over 13 years of experience working in the mental health field both with county contracted agencies as well as for-profit companies. I have been a manager and clinical supervisor supporting the next generation of therapists in honing their clinical tools. I am also trained in mindfulness and incorporate into session as applicable- See example of my mindfulness exercises here. I am an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist (CST) certification which included training, supervision and direct client hours supporting individuals communicate about pleasure and desire, increasing self-acceptance, reducing anxiety, changing response to pelvic pain, and incorporating mindfulness and fun in their sex lives.
I use a warm and open approach in which you and I collaborate on your goals for therapy. I use humor, gentle honesty and transparency to support our work together and encourage you to respond in kind. Treatment is driven by your values (which may include connectedness, honesty, fun, kindness, and/or achievement among others). We look at the role emotions and thoughts have on your life including whether your current methods are “working for you” and empower you to make choices that align with your values. If it is of interest to you, we may incorporate various aspects of mindfulness practice.
I have experience treating anxiety, trauma, transition and life changes, depression, body image, identity growth including LGBTQI+ affirming. I am certified in a variety of interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis, Inner Resources for Stress (mindfulness course), and vast experience in ACT including completing an advanced 2-day intensive course with Steven Hayes, co-creator of ACT. Being a member of professional organizations such as Association of Contextual Behavioral Sciences (ACBS), California Association of Marriage Family Therapists (CAMFT), and American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) supports in ongoing training and consultation in this field.
In my personal life I am married, identify within the LGBTQI+ community, and enjoy being a mom to an energetic kiddo and use weight training, camping, hiking and being in nature as my go-to stress relievers. I am almost always reading multiple books. I also have a regular yoga and mindfulness practice as I believe in practicing what I preach.
